Will childcare services be disrupted during the transition of operations?

It is the District’s intention to keep disruptions of operations to a minimum during the transition period between spaces.

When will the new facility be opened?

Operations of a licensed childcare facility require an approved Community Care Facility Licence. The process is currently underway to apply for a new licence, which will influence the opening day. Updates will be provided as they become available.

Will the facility provide infant & toddler care?

At this time, staffing resources are insufficient to offer group childcare for children under 30 months. Staff may consider adapting operations to meet this need in the future; however, at this time, the District are not offering this type of care. To provide this type of childcare, an Infant and Toddler Early Childhood Educator (ITECE), Early Childhood Educator (ECE) and Early Childhood Educator Assistant (ECEA) are required for a ratio of 9-12 spaces.

My child is currently on the waitlist of the Community Children's Centre. Do I have to submit a new request to put my child on the waitlist for the new facility?

The Community Children's Centre's current waitlist will be maintained and established as the new waitlist. Families are not required to resubmit a ‘waitlist request’ form if they are already on the waitlist. If families are unsure if they are on the current waitlist, please submit a waitlist request form available in the documents section. Complete waitlist forms can be emailed to children@tofino.ca.

Will the new facility be a $10 a Day centre?

The process to amend the funding agreement with the province is underway to support continued access to the $10 a Day funding program and other childcare reduction fee initiatives from the province for this space. More information will follow in future updates.
