Mackenzie Beach Road Paving & Multi-Use Pathway (MUP) Extension
The development of Mackenzie Beach Road will improve access to Mackenzie Beach, including:
- Paving Mackenzie Beach Road from Pacific Rim Highway to Mackenzie Beach Resort.
- An extension of the Multi-use pathway (MUP) adjacent to the existing road from Pacific Rim Highway to Mackenzie Beach.
- Improved public access down to Mackenzie Beach.
- Parking at the end of Mackenzie Beach Road.
- A turn around lane to allow for continuous traffic flow.
- Provision for future public washrooms.
- Bike parking.

As of August 1, 2024, paving and line painting have been completed, marking a key milestone in the project. The majority of the roadworks and upgrades to the drainage conveyance systems are now finished, with only a few minor items remaining.
Completed Works:
• Stormwater drainage conveyance (culverts and pipe, storm manhole, headwalls)
• Grading and road widening
• Sidewalks and curb at the turn-around area
• Paving and line painting
Remaining Work:
• Wheel stops
• Traffic signage (one-way, parking, and formalized speed)
• Bollards at highway crossing and miscellaneous barriers at the turn-around loop
• Wayfinding signage at the loop
• Landscaping at the loop
This week, the contractor will continue installing bollards and traffic signage along the roadway.
Parallel Project - Mackenzie Beach Washroom Project:
In parallel with the road upgrades, work will soon begin on the Mackenzie Beach Washroom Project. The remaining items for this project include:
• Installation of a hydro pole for washroom electrical
• Construction of the washroom concrete pad and building

This essential work aims to enhance the infrastructure and accessibility of Mackenzie Beach Road.
Residents should be aware that the work is expected to continue from Monday through Wednesday (July 31), during which single-lane alternating traffic will be in effect at the junction of Mackenzie Beach Road and Pacific Rim Highway.
Access to Mackenzie Beach Road will be restricted to single-lane alternating traffic. It is advised that those not staying at an accommodation provider located on Mackenzie Beach Road use Hellesen Drive as an alternative route to access Mackenzie Beach.

Utilities and storm infrastructure have been successfully installed, laying a strong foundation for the ongoing work. Currently, crews are diligently forming and pouring concrete for the curbs and sidewalks, which will improve pedestrian safety and accessibility. The next major step in the project is the tentative paving, scheduled to take place during the first week of August. Once the paving is complete, line painting and signage will follow, ensuring clear and safe navigation for all road users.
The project remains on track for substantial completion during the week of August 23, 2024. These enhancements will significantly benefit the community by providing a safer, more efficient roadway and pedestrian environment.

Construction has begun and is projected to be completed August 2024. During this period, there may be intermittent single-lane alternating traffic, which could result in delays of 10 to 15 minutes, depending on the construction activities. Construction crews are committed to keeping these delays as brief as possible.
The District appreciates the patience and understanding of residents and visitors during this project.
