Project Overview
The District of Tofino is renovating the kitchen at the Tofino Community Hall. The kitchen will be fully closed during construction.
This project will transform the current kitchen into a fully operational commercial kitchen. The updated space will serve a wide range of community needs, from food programs and cultural events to rentals and emergency support.
The renewed kitchen will:
Support local food programs and community-based organizations
Provide a teaching space for cooking, food preparation, and food preservation workshops
Offer space for youth programs and senior luncheons
Create opportunities for small and local food producers to prepare food
Support the preparation of traditional and culturally preferred foods during potlatches, wakes, and other First Nations cultural events
By upgrading the kitchen to commercial standards, the District is improving access, safety, and functionality for all users.
Scope of Work
Construction will modernize the existing kitchen and install new commercial systems and equipment.
Work includes:
Removal of current cupboards, workspaces, stove, and hood vents
Installation of a new commercial hood vent and makeup air system
Flooring repairs
Interior painting
Installation of both existing and new commercial kitchen equipment
The result will be a fully equipped commercial kitchen that meets health and safety standards while remaining flexible for community use.
A conceptual design drawing is available on this page.
