The Cox Bay Maltby Washroom is a key infrastructure project identified in the 2022-2024 Resort Development Strategy. The project is intended to provide beachgoers with access to a washroom and change room facility at one of Tofino’s most popular public beach accesses. The full cost of this project is funded by the Province's Resort Municipality Initiative (RMI).

Currently, the presence of a single stall washroom, a fair distance from parking areas, falls short of meeting the needs of both residents and visitors at this popular location. Additional parking has been added in recent years, and beach pay parking was implemented

Currently, the presence of a single stall washroom, a fair distance from parking areas, falls short of meeting the needs of both residents and visitors at this popular location. Additional parking has been added in recent years, and beach pay parking was implemented in 2020. The new washroom facility will compliment, and not replace, the existing single stall washroom, located close to the beach.

The proposed new washroom facility was initially designed and tendered in late 2021, however due to market conditions at that time, pricing received was well in excess of the District’s budget for the project and tenders rejected.

Reducing or changing the scope of the washroom facility was explored, however a resulting smaller facility would not be sufficient to support the number of users at this location and alternative, lower cost materials would not provide the community with a durable, low maintenance facility to last for decades.
