Update: August 13, 2026

At the August 11, 2026 Regular Council meeting, Council gave second reading to the Official Community Plan (OCP) amendment for 740 Campbell Street. The amendment proposes changing the District-owned property’s land use designation from Peninsula to Future Homes to support a proposed 21-unit multi-family housing development in partnership with the Tofino Housing Corporation.

Following second reading, Council held a Public Hearing on the proposed OCP amendment. The hearing provided a formal opportunity for the public to share comments with Council before further consideration of the bylaw. Council received written submissions and heard comments from members of the public. The purpose of the hearing was to receive input, not to make a decision on the amendment. Now that the Public Hearing has closed, Council cannot accept any further public submissions regarding the OCP amendment.

What Happens Next?

The OCP amendment will return to Council at a future meeting for consideration of third reading. The related zoning amendment, which would establish the site-specific zoning needed for the proposed 21-unit development, was removed from the August 11 agenda and will return to Council for consideration at a future meeting. These land use approvals are steps in the overall development process and do not represent final approval for construction.
